I had an acupuncture appointment recently…

And had a great session.

I love finding a good therapist…

Mostly for the love of not having to shop around for one.

But when I leaned in to give her a hug…

I was a little surprised.

I needed to reach wider than I was anticipating…

You’d think most acupuncturists are very health conscious

This therapist seemed more sedentary and food focused…

That’s when I realized acupuncturists aren’t the only medical professionals carrying around extra weight

You see it all the time in the medical field.

At the doctor’s office…

In the hospital…

And even with massage therapists…

What the hell’s going on here?

Would you feel comfortable getting personal training services from an overweight trainer?

Then, why would you receive medical care from the clinically obese?

In all fairness, the majority of doctors do stay in relatively good shape…

It’s mostly nurses who have all that extra lovin’ around the middle…

On the arms… Face… And elsewhere.

Maybe it’s their really stressful jobs?

Or they don’t make time for exercise?

Or maybe it’s because medical schools don’t include much curriculum on nutrition…

Take this pill… Call me in the morning

And the same is true for doctors.

MD’s usually have 1, maybe 2, nutrition classes throughout the several years they’re in med school.

Really progressive schools may have a couple more classes offered…

But those universities are fewer and farther between…

Maybe we’ve just forgotten about the father of western medicine?

Working in the medical field doesn’t give you a hall pass for taking care of your health.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day…

And it’s up to you to decide what you’re going to do with it.

  1. Eat whole foods

It’s pretty easy, but for many it isn’t…

Simply not eating man-made foods will dramatically improve your health and physique alone.

That’s a BIG checkmark…

There is so much crap in foods like bread, tortilla chips, and canned foods.

So, how do you know if a food is a whole food?

Here’s the test. If it comes in a box, or has more than 2 ingredients, then don’t eat it.

If it doesn’t come in a box, like a beef roast or vegetables…

And has 2 or less ingredients…

Like an avocado or a stick of butter…

You’re good to go!

Avocados have just 1 ingredient… Avocados!

  1. Cut out the beverages packed with calories

The average American gets 20% of their daily caloric intake through beverages…

20 freaking percent!!!

That’s the average… My beverage calories on most days…

Are a whopping 0

So, that must mean some Americans out there are way over 20%

But, what if you lost 20% in poundage?

I’ll run those numbers for you…

If you’re a woman weighing in at 170 lbs. and a man weighing in at 240lbs

You could be weighing just 137 and 192lbs!

Just for cutting out beverages with a shit ton of calories?

Yes AL Nation… Just by drinking liquids like water, unsweetened tea, and mineral water…

Throw away the Crystal Light or other water flavoring products.

Would you drink Kool-Aid all day every day?

Well the same stuff in Kool-Aid is the same stuff in Crystal Light…

1 just “Has 0 Calories!”

The big criminals on the fat gain street are Juice, soda, and flavored coffees…

Sometimes I wonder how many American fat pounds are direct results of Starbucks…

Yes, those extra pumps of mocha, vanilla, caramel, and the chocolate chips don’t keep you trim and sexy…

And forget about healthy!

There’s 2 things to do with my coffee addict friends and family…

Either stop drinking it or begin to appreciate black coffee.

You can taper into the blackness by using a little heavy cream…

And, I repeat, a little heavy cream!

Let’s not forget about those juices and sodas. Ahh yes…

Literally the same beverage except…

1 has more vitamins and the other is carbonated.

Besides that, they’re the same fat gaining drinks.

Choose water, mineral water, and unsweetened tea…

And watch 20% of the pounds melt off…

  1. Daily Activity & then Exercise

You don’t need to run a half marathon every day…

You don’t need to go to the gym every day either…

Just go for a 20-30 minute walk after dinner.

Maybe get it in on your lunch break…

Make time for it in the morning…

And if you get in 2 or 3 walks each day…

You’ll go directly to the AL Nation Hall of Fame!

The point I’m making here is to be more active.

Go for a walk. Ride a bike. Play with the kids.

Do what you need to do to get off your butt.

Plain and simple.

The exercise part is icing on the cake.

Meaning, get the walking and increased activity under your belt first.

Once you have that down, then add this sexy layer of icing exercise.

3 days a week is the sweet spot.

That’s when you really start to see changes if you’re maintaining an increased activity level.

You could do 2, or worse 1 workout, each week…

But you’ll get pissed off and upset when those 1 or 2 days don’t get you where you want to go…

That’s why it’s icing on the cake.

Get your daily activity up first…

Then hit it hard for 5 or 10 minutes in the gym, office, or at home.

It’s a bodyweight circuit with no rest in between exercises…

So, once you’re done with an exercise, move right into the next one.

It’s 5 exercises and we’re going 3 rounds.

5 pushups

10 sit-ups

15 squats

20 second plank

25 second glute bridge

If you need to perform the pushups from your knees, that’s fine…

If you can’t do any pushups from your knees…
